September to begin on a rainy note for Delhi, heavy showers in some parts

Delhi rains had remained on the backseat with only patchy rains making an appearance on a few occasions. In fact, rains had remained on the backseat for quite a long time now due to which it seemed like the city would not be able to surpass its monthly mean.

However, a few days ago, rains had been quite heavy over many parts of the national capital wherein some areas even saw three-digit rainfall during that time. In fact, Palam observatory had witnessed a whopping 101 mm of rains while Safdarjung observed 50 mm of rains in the same time frame.

The last 24 hours were dry, and no rainfall was observed over the state. However, with good rains on a few occasions, Palam observatory recorded 182.2 mm of rains against its August average of 188.7 mm which is quite close to the normal mean.

Meanwhile, Safdarjung observatory has recorded 206.5 mm this month against 232.5 mm which is not too far away.

Now, the axis of the Monsoon trough is running along the foothills of the Himalayas and is expected to oscillate due to which rains are expected over the national capital. In fact, a cyclonic circulation is over East Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas due to which situation has become more conducive for heavy spells of rainfall over Delhi during the next three days out of which Sunday will see the most amount of rainfall.
