January 13, 2015 12:56 PM |

Coldest Lohri in last ten years It’s the day to welcome the harvest season with gaiety and fervor and so to embrace the second coldest Lohri in the national capital. With minimums plummeting to all new low, Delhi witnesses yet another extremely cold morning on Lohri after a long hiatus of coldest Lohri celebrated in 2007.

No wonder, everyone would be eagerly waiting for the sparkling flames in the evening to appease the gods and receive the winter solace from the inflicting cold weather.

One of the popular winter festivals, Lohri is celebrated every year on the 13th January. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the minimum temperature on this date in 2007 was the lowest at 2.6°C, followed by the minimum observed today at 4°C.

After waking up to extremely foggy morning, with nil visibility in Amritsar and Chandigarh in Punjab and parts of Delhi, residents are expected to witness extremely cold night as well.

The minimum temperature in Delhi was 4 degrees below normal and has been showing similar trend since the beginning of January, compelling Delhiites to switch on the room heaters to get some relief from the biting cold weather. Stylish winter wear for the Lohri festival and the coldest month of the year was another factor ruling the winter season this year.

Light rain is expected over parts of North India on 14th morning , sparing the dampening of the Lohri festivities.
