Scintillating heatwave like weather in offing for Delhi and Haryana

April 13, 2017 4:38 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Till April 10-11, temperatures over Delhi-NCR and neighboring state of Haryana were witnessing comfortable weather, this was due to the below normal temperature over the entire region. The reason for such drop in temperature was the widespread rain and snow over hills of North India. Cool winds were blowing and keeping the temperatures down that is why the mercury remained below normal.

But now, winds have changed direction and start blowing from southwest direction. These southwesterly winds are coming from Sindh, Baluchistan and Rajasthan. Temperatures over these areas are in the range of 44-46 degrees.

Due to these hot winds, Delhi and parts of Haryana has witnessed a sudden rise in temperature. Rise was very significant so much so that Palam recorded 34.1 degrees on April 9 and it jumped to 40.9 degrees on April 12. Within three days the temperatures jumped 7 degrees.

We expect the southwesterly flow of hot winds to continue and many more areas of Northwest plains including Delhi and Haryana will register temperatures more than 40 degrees.

At present, heatwave like conditions are prevailing over Delhi NCR and Haryana, particularly Southwest Haryana. Chances of further rise in temperature is expected and heatwave to set in and sudden discomfort in weather.
