Schools shut in Noida for 2 days as Winter intensifies, mercury dips to 5.2 degrees Celsius

Noida schools closed

In the wake of extreme cold conditions, schools have been shut in Noida for two days. District Magistrate, Gautam Budh Nagar, Brajesh Narayan Singh on Wednesday tweeted ‘Schools in up to class 12th in Gautam Buddha Nagar shall be closed on 19th and 20th Dec due to extreme cold weather.'

The Safdarjung Observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 5.2°C, while the Palam observatory saw the temperature settle at 5.4°C on Thursday morning. As a matter of fact, this is the lowest minimum the city has recorded in December during the last 6 years.

After two days of freezing weather conditions, Delhi and NCR saw some relief on Wednesday as fog density improved. This also paved the way for mild sunshine, leading to an increase in temperatures. However, mercury once again dipped during morning hours today, with a dense layer of fog taking over the region.

The visibility dropped to 100 meters in Delhi (Palam Observatory). The adjoining areas of Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad and Faridabad too observed poor visibility level of 200 meters during early morning hours.

The cold winds from the northwest direction will continue to blow in Delhi and its adjoining areas. Thus, no relief is likely from cold day conditions for at least the next 24 hours. Moderate to dense fog is likely to appear tomorrow as well.
