Since the last few days, sporadic pre-Monsoon activities are being observed in the interior parts of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
During the last 24 hours, moderate to heavy showers occurred over Udhagamandalam while scattered rains were witnessed over many places in Tamil Nadu such as Kodaikanal and Tiruttani etc. Kerala also recorded light rains in the past 24 hours.
At present, a trough is extending from North Odisha up to Comorin region across Telangana and interior Tamil Nadu. An embedded Cyclonic Circulation can be marked over South Andhra Pradesh.
The ongoing rainfall activities will now enhance over both the states. We expect scattered rain and thundershower to continue over both the states for at least next 3 to 4 days, which might at times be accompanied with strong winds. Places like Kochi, Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram might witness rains.
However, the coastal districts of the states such as Puducherry, Karaikal, Punalur are expected to remain dry.
Heat wave to continue
The heat wave conditions which are prevailing over isolated pockets of the state will linger for another 24 to 48 hours rain will take place only during evening hours. The day however will remain humid and warm.
States running rain deficient
Except for this episode, no other spell of rain is forecast for the state for the rest of the month.
The ongoing rains are also being experienced in isolated pockets and are patchy in nature, not contributing much to the current rain deficiency figures. Thus, it's being speculated that the pre-Monsoon season might end on a deficient note for Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Normal date of onset of Monsoon over the state is June 1. However, we have to wait and watch whether the Monsoon will reach on time or get delayed.
