For the period of last 24 hours, scattered light to moderate rains was witnessed over the state, where Agra recorded rains to the tune of 31 mm, Jhansi 29 mm, Aligarh 27 mm, Allahabad 14 mm, Bahraich 14 mm, Lucknow 11 mm and Varanasi saw 4 mm of light spells.
Now also, we do not expect much difference in the rainfall activities and scattered rains would continue over the region. Heavy to very heavy spells are completely ruled out until July 26.
Afterward, we are foreseeing a significant increase in the rainfall activities over the entire state, which could be attributed to the northward shift of axis of Monsoon trough and a cyclonic circulation that is most likely to persist over Uttar Pradesh.
Consequently, moderate rains accompanied with one or two heavy spells are in store over many parts of the state from July 27 to August 1. This could be stated as the first rainy spell of this Monsoon season with which the rain deficiency of the state may reduce to a great extent.
During this phase, places like Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Allahabad, Sultanpur, Meerut, Varanasi and Bareilly would observe the rain activity.
In fact, many parts of Uttar Pradesh, particularly the eastern areas that are fighting with drought-like conditions are anticipated to observe substantial relief. What's more, these showers will also be advantageous for the crops that are in urgent need of irrigation.
