After one of the driest Augusts, monsoon rains have picked up pace over Gujarat and Rajasthan during July. Now, rain activities over now rain activities over Saurashtra and Kutch as well as western parts of Rajasthan will take a backseat. However, light to moderate rain may continue over eastern parts of Rajasthan, particularly Southeast Rajasthan and eastern districts of Gujarat.
Between June 1 and September 23rd, Saurashtra and Kutch are rain excess by 50%. Gujarat region is also in the normal rain category with a deficiency of just 2%. We can say that monsoon 2023 was generous over Gujarat until now. The remaining days of September will also be rainy for the eastern part of Gujarat.
An anti-cyclone has already developed over western parts of Rajasthan and adjoining parts of Pakistan leading to dry winds over west and southwest Rajasthan. This will mark the withdrawal of the Southwest monsoon from the western districts of Rajasthan very soon.
Further withdrawal of monsoon from eastern districts of Rajasthan will take at least 4 to 5 days. Harvesting is going on over many parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan. Therefore, rain activities now will not be beneficial for the farmers.
