After August 9, the northwestern plains of India remained mostly dry. This weather situation can be attributed to the absence of any significant weather system.

However, due to the shift of the axis of Monsoon trough southward, rains have made an appearance over many parts of Delhi, North Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh. Northern parts of Punjab along with Haryana also received rain activity in the last 24 hours due to the Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir.

In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, Ludhiana received a whopping 64 mm of rainfall, followed by Meerut 60 mm, Chandigarh 53 mm, Muzaffarnagar 32 mm, Palam 24 mm, Ambala 19 mm, Karnal 15 mm of rains. There were few areas that recorded light spells as well such as Ayanagar, Safdarjung, Patiala, Bareilly and Agra.

At present, the day maximums are settling in the range of 34-35 degrees, whereas minimum temperatures are ranging around 26-27 degrees over these regions. Thus the humidity levels are also high over the area.

East-southeasterly winds are prevailing over these regions. As these winds are moist in nature, light rains at scattered places will occur during the next two to three days. By August 23, rainfall intensity is likely to increase over Delhi and adjoining Haryana.
