Scattered light rains in Chennai; heavy showers unlikely

The city of Chennai has been witnessing some rains on a constant basis. While there was a time when dry spell has taken over Chennai, now, rainfall activity has increased to quite an extent and Chennai keeps witnessing light to moderate showers frequently.

Thus, so far, during the month of August, rain gods have been kind enough over Chennai. However, the city did not witness any rainfall activity during the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, adjoining area of Cuddalore recorded 10 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday.

These weather conditions are attributed to the absence of any significant weather system in proximity of Chennai. Now, the city will continue to witness scattered light rains in the next 24 to 48 hours. These rains will be attributed to localized weather activity.

Live lightning and thunderstorm status across Chennai

Sky conditions will remain cloudy with temperatures settling close to the normal levels. Not only this, humidity levels will also remain on a high during this period.

So far, Chennai has been able to record a whopping 216.6 mm of rains against its monthly mean of 126.8 mm. Thus, it has easily been able to surpass its monthly mean. In fact, as there is still a week to go for August to end, the figures will only witness a further increase.
