Currently, on and off pre-Monsoon rains have been observed over Delhi & NCR since past few days. What is discouraging is that this year pre-Monsoon rains have not been as intense like they used to be. Only scattered patchy rain normally occurs during late afternoon and in evening hours.
As far as Delhi’s rainfall is concerned, just a mere 17 mm has occurred in the month of June till now. Monsoon has reached Central Uttar Pradesh and we expect that rains will pick up pace over Delhi around June 26-27.
Around June 26-27, a prominent trough is expected to develop over northern plains over Delhi including Punjab to Southwest Uttar Pradesh across Delhi. This trough will intensify the rainfall activity and gradually the pre-Monsoon activity will pave way for Monsoon rains. And we expect that Monsoon will reach Delhi around June 28-29.
At present the temperatures are near normal but by end of the month, temperatures are expected to fall further and significant increase humidity in levels are also expedited.
Moderate easterly winds will prevail over Delhi and NCR.
Good rains are expected to continue until July first week. Even then the Monsoon rains are expected to continue with a gap one or two days.
This year we expect the Monsoon to be slightly above normal over most parts of the country and Delhi is also expected to get its fair share of Monsoon showers.
