The winter season for Uttar Pradesh ended with surplus rains wherein West Uttar Pradesh was excess by 27% and East Uttar Pradesh by 16%. Now, coming to the pre-monsoon season (March 1- May 31), West Uttar Pradesh has received good rains so far and is presently surplus by 8%. Whereas, East Uttar Pradesh is deficient by 22%.
Western region of Uttar Pradesh has performed well because when the Western Disturbance tracks eastward, it tends to give more rains over Western parts and on moving further ahead, they tend to lose strength and moisture. Hence, less rains over eastern parts of the state.
A fresh Western Disturbance is all set to hit the Western Himalayas by the afternoon of March 13. During this period, a trough or confluence zone is expected to form across Uttar Pradesh, leading to commencement of isolated rains in the region by the evening of March 13 with increased intensity on March 14.

On March 14, we expect few moderate spells of rain and thundershowers with isolated hailstorm activities over Northwest Uttar Pradesh and intensity would be comparatively less over East and Central districts of Uttar Pradesh. Places like Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Moradabad and Bareilly would be a witness to these rains.
On March 15, this weather system is expected to move further east, and weather would clear up from the western parts of the states. The eastern districts might receive light rains on March 15 and post that the weather would clear up. Faizabad, Gorakhpur, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Amethi and Rai Bareilly would get to see rains on March 15.
The experts have to say that dry weather would not continue for long because another confluence zone is expected to develop from East Madhya Pradesh up till Bihar around March 17. During this time, Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Sonbhadra and Chitrakoot would be observing wet spells.
