Dry weather has been prevalent in almost the entire state of Maharashtra. Due to the absence of rains, the sky has remained clear with bright sunshine. Due to this, the temperatures have also been soaring to quite an extent.

Konkan and Goa region is also bearing the brunt of dry and warm weather for more than a month now. Temperatures are high over most parts of the region, particularly over the southern and northern parts.

Meanwhile, the nights in Konkan and Goa have also been slightly on the warmer side as minimum temperatures are settling in the lower 20’s.

In the last 24 hours, the maximums temperatures of both Mumbai and Harnai went 4 degrees each beyond the normal levels and settled at 34.1°C and 31.4°C, respectively. Ratnagiri and Dahanu also recorded the daytime high about 2 degrees above the normal at 32.5°C and 29.8°C, respectively.

As per Skymet Weather, on and off troughs are traveling from South Maharashtra to Kerala and at times over Lakshadweep Islands. However, due to being feeble in nature, they failed to give any weather activity in terms of rains over the region.

As of now also, any significant weather system that could give rain and thundershowers is not expected to develop over and around Maharashtra. As rains are not anticipated, therefore, the warm and dry weather is expected to continue over the area for the next few days. Temperatures may oscillate to and fro by a couple of degrees but any relief from warm and humid weather is not foreseen.

Let us take a look at the impact of this weather on agriculture in Konkan and Goa region:

Due to increasing temperature, sucking pest and seasonal pest may affect crops like Mango, Cashew nut and the vegetables that are at flowering to fruit development stage. Therefore, farmers in Konkan region are advised to take care of Mango, Cashew nut, Banana, Areca nut, Coconut orchard, and vegetables for pest incidence.

Farmers are recommended to take appropriate measures to restrict pest incidences. Also, they are advised to provide irrigation to the orchard and vegetable crops to minimize fruit and flower drops.
