Courtesy, of a series of western disturbances moving across the northern mountains, the temperatures have generally remained suppressed over the national capital, so far. The highest temperature has been recorded at 34.1°C, on 23rd March 2024. The mercury level is likely to remain checked and expected to stay under 35°C.  Today, the temperature is showing a rising trend and may come closer to this mark. However, a twist in the weather conditions over the next few days, over the northern plains, including Delhi will swing it back to the low 30’s around the weekend.

Western disturbance is marked over Jammu and Kashmir. Another one is the following, nearly overlapping and arriving on 29th March. The second system may also have an offshoot over the plains, as an embedded cyclonic circulation. The combined influence is shaping well for a few stray showers over the capital and neighbourhood. Chances are growing for brief duration showers on three days, between 28th and 30th March. Weather conditions may still not stabilize in the adjoining areas of NCR and therefore some stray clouds will keep hovering for the subsequent few days.

Delhi, invariably reaches or exceeds 35°C, in the month of March. Yes, last year was an exception and the temperature was arrested at 34.3°C, on 15th March. A similar track was seen in March 2020, when the highest was checked at 33.3°C, one of the lowest in the last decade. Mercury level has breached even 40°C in March on a few occasions. In the recent past, the capital city recorded 40.1°C on 29 March 2021. In March 2022, the mercury fell short of 40°C and recorded 39.6°C, on 30th March.
