June 28, 2016 8:25 PM|

Maharashtra rainsMonsoon has covered most parts of the country barring northern plains. Moreover, weather conditions look favourable for Southwest Monsoon to progress further any time soon.

At present, entire country is under influence of the off-shore trough along the West Coast, two Monsoon systems in Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea and the trough running from Punjab up to the system in Bay of Bengal.

In wake of this, all the states of the country have recorded rains of varying intensity during last 24 hours. According to Skymet Weather, it is very rare for the entire country to witness simultaneous rain activity.

While Monsoon was vigorous along the West Coast, it was active to normal over almost entire country barring Tamil Nadu which saw subdued conditions. Not only this, northwestern plains of Punjab, Haryana,DelhiandRajasthanalso recorded good pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers under the influence of active Monsoon surge.

Impact of Monsoon systems across the country

These moderate to heavy showers across the country has consumed the countrywide rainfall deficiency by 3%. As on June 28, the countrywide cumulative rainfall deficiency stands at 13%. It is also for the first time in the season that deficiency has reduced by such huge margin in span of 24 hours.

The off-shore trough along the West Coast has been responsible for pounding torrential rains over North Kerala, Coastal Karnataka and Konkan & Goa includingMumbai.  Meanwhile, the Monsoon system in Arabian Sea, presently seen as depression, has been pushing moisture laden winds up to Gujarat and Rajasthan giving good amount of rains.

On the other hand, the low pressure area has been triggering good Monsoon rains over CoastalAndhra Pradesh, Coastal Odisha, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Chhattisgarh and adjoining parts of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

However, Monsoon rains have been subdued over East Northeast India. But, light to moderate rains continued over many parts of the northeastern states. According to Skymet Weather, it is the characteristic of the northeastern region that it never goes completely dry during the season.

Region-wise rainfall recorded in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday
