After lashing Madhya Pradesh with flooding rains, rains have been missing in the state for a long time now. In a similar manner, Chhattisgarh is also waiting for some good spells. The Monsoon rains in both the states of central India are now witnessing a declining trend.
Though some light to moderate showers occurred in both the states in the last 24 hours, heavy rains are still not seen. In the past 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Friday, Pendra Road recorded 26 mm of rains, Seoni and Narsinghpur 11 mm and Pachmarhi 16 mm. But, during the next 24 to 48 hours, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh are likely to witness good rainfall. Initially, North Chhattisgarh and East Madhya Pradesh will get to see the good rains. The scope of the rain will then gradually increase towards northwest Madhya Pradesh.
As per Skymet Weather, the cyclonic circulation which was over North Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas has moved northwest and is presently seen over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining regions. Moreover, the axis of monsoon trough also lies in the lowlands of the Himalayas.

Moreover, a north-south trough is likely to develop from the Monsoon trough running from East Uttar Pradesh to south Odisha across Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. The cyclonic systems in the parts of East India can also contribute to these rains.

During the next 24 to 48 hours, due to the effect of these weather systems, moderate to heavy rains can occur in many parts of Chhattisgarh especially in Pendra, Bilaspur, Korba, and Ambikapur. While light to moderate spells can occur in the remaining parts of the state.
Similarly, in the eastern parts of Madhya Pradesh, rain activities will increase during the next 24-48 hours. Moderate to heavy rains can occur in Chhatarpur, Rewa, Khajuraho, Satna, Katni, Damoh, Sagar and Jabalpur.
Thereafter, as the rain belt will shift further west, districts such as Guna, Gwalior, Indore, Bhopal can brace for some moderate to heavy rains. Given the probability of these rains, it is estimated that the overall rainfall statistics of both Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh will improve.
