The capital city Mumbai remains in queue for commencement of withdrawal of southwest monsoon. The city has overshot the normal date of 08th October and the withdrawal is expected to be delayed by one week. The extended session of the Monsoon is favoring few spells of rain and thundershowers lasting till weekend. Though, airport observatory at Santacruz did not record any rainfall in the past 24hr, but Colaba observed moderate showers measuring 19mm.
The city had earlier received very heavy showers on 07-08 October, registering 114mm rainfall in 24hr, overtaking the monthly normal of 91.3mm. This happens to be the highest 24hr rainfall during last 10 years and highest ever 24hr rainfall being 140.8mm, measured on 04th Oct 1988. The financial capital has recorded 117.4mm rainfall between 01st and 12thOctober, so far.
Meteorological conditions are favorable for parting rains of southwest monsoon over the next 4-5 days. These rains will be light and patchy, more so today and tomorrow. Weather activity is likely in the evening and night. Partly cloudy sky, with warm and humid conditions are expected during the day.
Cyclonic circulation is marked over South Konkan & Goa in the lower levels of atmosphere. This feature will gradually shift over the Arabian Sea, off Konkan coast over the next 3days. Proximity of the weather system will cause rain and thundershowers over Mumbai and suburbs, albeit light to moderate in nature. Day and night temperatures will hover around the normal of 32°C and 24°C, respectively. Southwest monsoon is expected to retreat from the city by 17th October with a delay of about one week.
