Republic day is the symbol of victory of Indian fighters over British rule. It is that prestigious day which reminds us that we are able to breathe in the environment of freedom because our proud soldiers had put their hearts and souls to give this country every bit of freedom it deserves.
Man has become the master of his life. Today, we can move in freedom, we can breath in liberalized air, we sleep in peace, we wake up in ease, all of this because our pride, our Indian Army, our guardians several kilometers away from their homes are fighting for our existence. They are fighting for our protection, our integrity, our sovereignty, they are facing extremities, yet battling for our dignity and in this process, weather has never been kind to them.
The Indian army posted in ranges such Siachen, Pir Panjal, and Ladakh are bound to battle extreme weather conditions. Heavy rains, extremely heavy snowfall leading to avalanches and snow- slides have become a part of their everyday life. Yet they never let these deadly conditions to overcome the fire inside them. The fire to protect our nation, the fire that alarms our enemies that if you try to disturb our country’s dignity, we can be worse than the worst.
If reports are to be believed, Siachen has seen the sacrifice of around 850 soldiers in the last 30 years. In the recent past, more than 10 Indian Army Soldiers went missing after a massive avalanche hit the region. The reason being range’s sharp edges where avalanches are a routine. Likewise, Shamshabari range is a heavy snow slide and the avalanche prone area. Pir Panjal is another range where snow accumulation is extremely high. Heavy snow over Ladakh range is wild too, as evident by the incident where, four soldiers of 3 Ladakh Scouts were killed in such a mishap when their patrol was attacked by a massive avalanche. However, despite all these extremities our proud army never lets these causalities to take over them.

We all know how gloomy it gets in Kashmir during winter season and the maximum here settles at 10℃, minimums drops down to -8℃ thereby making operational activities highly difficult. To a great extent, one can only see thick layers of snow with absolutely no relief in sight.
A mere thank you is not enough for our brave soldiers. It will never be possible to understand what our army and their families go through. Thanks to bollywood movies made like URI: The surgical strike and Lakshya which give us an idea as to how one survives and fights in these extreme conditions. A huge respect to the Armed Forces, Indian Army, the Indian Air Force, the Indian Navy, and the Indian Coast Guard for their courage and high patriotism.
