In fact, all pockets have been witnessing large deficiencies with the maximum being for Assam and Meghalaya at -66 percent, followed by Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura (NMMT) at -60 percent. Arunachal Pradesh was also not far behind at -53 percent.
However, in the last 48 hours, widespread rains have made an appearance over the northeastern region in view of the remnants of Cyclone Phethai which moved across Bangladesh moving towards Northeast India. The last 24 hours saw moderate to heavy showers as well.
In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Lumding recorded 44 mm of rain, followed by Haflong 30 mm, Silchar 29 mm, Jorhat 27 mm, Shillong 27 mm, Guwahati 22 mm, Agartala 21 mm, Dibrugarh 21 mm, Itanagar 20 mm, Pasighat 16 mm, Kailashahar 15 mm, North Lakhimpur 14 mm, Cherrapunji 10 mm and Imphal 5 mm.
In fact, it was the rainiest day of the season for many parts of Northeast India. NMMT saw 8.2 mm rainfall against 0.7 mm, Assam and Meghalaya recorded 4.1 mm rainfall against 0.2 mm, and Arunachal Pradesh recorded 1.5 mm rainfall against 1.3 mm.
Due to these rains, deficiency has reduced by three to four percent with NMMT at -57 percent now, Assam and Meghalaya at -64 percent. Now, as the system has moved away, light rains are likely only today after which weather will find further clearance starting tomorrow.
