Cyclone Mandous, while moving across South Peninsula, weakened to a low pressure area over land. Presently, it is marked as a cyclonic circulation over interior parts of Tamil Nadu, South Interior Karnataka and North Kerala. Circulation is expected to move over the Arabian Sea in the next 24hr and evolve as a low pressure area.
Low pressure area will be marked over Southeast Arabian Sea, off North Kerala and South Coastal Karnataka, on 13th Dec. The system may become more marked the next day and move westward over East Central and adjoining Southeast Arabian Sea, on 14th Dec. Following day, the low pressure will be dragged further over central parts of Arabian Sea.
Proximity of the weather system to the coastline is likely to have scattered rain and thundershowers over Kerala, Coastal and South Interior Karnataka, Konkan, Rayalaseema and Tamil Nadu on 12th & 13th Dec. On 14th Dec, weather activity will start receding from Tamil Nadu, South Interior Karnataka and Rayalaseema. Light to moderate rain and thundershowers will continue along the coast covering Kerala, Coastal Karnataka and Konkan.
Low pressure over Central Arabian Sea is likely to weaken over open waters on 15th Dec due to cooler sea surface temperatures over Central, Western and North Arabian Sea. Low pressure will get completely defused, the next day on 16th Dec. Accordingly, the weather conditions over South Peninsula and along the coast will start improving 15th Dec onward and stay good till 18th Dec.
