Weather conditions have remained almost dry over the southern parts of the country for the past few days. Meanwhile, the hills of North India including popular hill stations have been witnessing widespread rain along with snowfall.
Now, during the next few days left in January, several parts of the country are likely to witness rains. Not only this, back to back Western Disturbances will continue to approach the Western Himalayas. Thus, on and off rain and snow is expected to continue over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh as well as Uttarakhand.

The good news for people planning to take a trip to the hills in the month of February is that a few Western Disturbances are expected to affect the Western Himalayas during that time also.
As far as the plains of North India are concerned, good rains are also on the cards for the plains January 24 onward. The Northern Plains including Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Punjab, North Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh along with the northern parts of Madhya Pradesh will receive light to moderate rain between January 24 and 27.
These weather conditions will be attributed to the formation of an induced cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan on January 24. Simultaneously, a trough is expected to form from Haryana to Gujarat. Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal will bring moisture to the systems.

Coming towards the Southern Peninsular India, rains are on the cards for the region. The state of Tamil Nadu is expected to witness rains January 21 onward. Chennai will also receive light to moderate rain between January 21 and 23.
These weather conditions will be attributed to a trough which is expected to form over south west Bay of Bengal off Tamil Nadu coast around Jan 20 along with which the easterly wave will also become prominent. On and off rainfall is expected to continue until January 27 over many parts of Tamil Nadu, South Interior Karnataka and Kerala.

Light rain is possible over some parts of Maharashtra between January 26 and 27 due to the interaction of weather system of north and south. Thus, the last ten days of January are going to be the wettest for most parts of the country except East and Northeast India.
