Delhi finally embraces the chill as temperatures drop!

Delhiites woke up to a rainy morning, an overcast sky with a peal of thunder and pleasant misty conditions. Most parts of Delhi/NCR received decent showers, for the second consecutive day. The activity started in the wee hours and light rain continued in some parts, till the forenoon hours. Base observatory Safdarjung recorded 27mm and Palam airport registered 18mm rainfall.  Gautam Budhnagar measured 28.5mm of rainfall till 8.30 a.m. today. More showers are expected and the activity will continue till midweek next.

The monsoon trough is the main driver of this activity. The trough is running nearly in its normal position and in close proximity to Delhi. Additionally, there is a cyclonic circulation embedded in the trough, lying over Northeast Rajasthan, South Haryana and adjoining Uttar Pradesh in the lower levels. Trough may oscillate slightly north-south with the movement of western disturbance but remain in the vicinity of the national capital.

Conditions will remain favourable for nearly week-long weather activity in the NCR. Rain and thundershowers will mostly take place in the late night, and wee hours and continue till morning hours. Quite often, break in the forenoon and afternoon hours. The spread and intensity could be more between the 27th and 29th of July. Maximum and minimum temperatures will hover around mid 30’s and mid 20’s, respectively. Pleasant conditions are likely in the night and early morning hours. Afternoon and early evening may become sultry, in the absence of rain.
