Many parts of Gujarat have been receiving torrential rains in the past many days that have even resulted in massive floods. The downpours have wreaked havoc across the entire state, normal life came to a standstill and road and rail traffic was severely affected. Local authorities advised people to stay indoors and avoid venturing out.

These torrential showers can be attributed to the low pressure that was persisting over South Rajasthan and adjoining Gujarat. This system has weakened into a cyclonic circulation and moved toward southwest parts of Rajasthan.

The last 24 hours were also not very much different as Ahmedabad recorded extremely heavy spell to the tune of 180 mm, whereas other districts witnessed light to moderates showers like Rajkot 35 mm, Vallabh Vidyanagar 20 mm, Kandla 19 mm, Deesa 19 mm, Amreli 15 mm, Mahuva 15 mm, Surendranagar 12 mm, Bhavnagar 7 mm and Bhuj 5 mm.

As the intensity of rains has already reduced over many parts, the water has started to recede. Furthermore, this cyclonic circulation has shifted over East Rajasthan.

Intermittent moderate rain with few heavy spells may continue over many parts of Ahmedabad, Amreli, Anand, Aravali, Banaskantha, Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Botad, Dahod, Devbhumi Dwarka, Gandhinagar, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Kachchh, Kheda, Mahesana, Mahisagar, Marvi, Narmada, Panch mahals, Patan, Rajkot, Sabarkantha, Surendranagar, Vadodara and Alirajpur for the next 12 hours.

Thus, in wake of this, weathermen expect further decrease in the rain intensity over Gujarat, however light to moderate rains with one or two heavy spells will continue to lash Gujarat region and parts of Saurashtra and Kutch.

During the next 24 to 48 hours, rains will reduce significantly over entire Gujarat and only scattered rains will continue. This will bring huge relief over the flood affected areas.
