Vidarbha is susceptible to large variation in temperatures, particularly in the Month of March. This can be understood from the fact that the day temperatures in the region, till a few days back were hovering in the high thirties but they have dropped by almost 7-8°C.
For instance Nagpur had recorded 37.6°C as the day temperature on Sunday but on Monday it dropped by almost 8°C to settle at 30.5°C. Yeotmal also saw some drastic fall in the day temperature. From recording 37°C as the maximum on Sunday the city recorded 30.6°C as the day temperature on Monday, which is again a drop of about 7 degrees.
Nanded which saw the maximum settle at 40.5°C on Sunday got a huge relief on Monday from the hot weather. The maximum on Monday dropped by 5 degrees to settle at 33.5°C. Some other places in the region to have observed drop in the day temperature are Parbhani, where a drop of 4 degrees was observed, Amravati recorded a drop on 7 degrees and Akola 3 degrees.
The drop in temperature is due to the anti-cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal. The system has changed the wind pattern and the sea breeze has pushed down the day temperatures in the region. However, this is just a temporary relief as the maximum temperatures are likely to shoot again.
