The centermost state of Madhya Pradesh has been continuously being battered by torrential rains. These incessant showers led to flash flooding in most pockets of the state, mainly affecting the western half of the state. Back to back weather systems arriving over the state are to be blamed for these flooding rains.
Though, the intensity of the rains remained much more over East Madhya Pradesh. On the last day as well, the state witnessed some scattered rain activity, the intensity varying between moderate to heavy and isolated extremely heavy rains.
In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Sunday, Ratlam recorded the heaviest rain of the day in the state to the tune of 105 mm, followed by Malanjkhand at 74 mm, Sagar 71 mm, Khajuraho 63 mm, Pachmarhi 58 mm, Narsinghpur 51 mm, Chhindwara 48 mm, Jabalpur 47 mm, Ujjain 46 mm, Satna 45 mm, Umaria 36 mm, Seoni 26 mm, Khandwa 24 mm, Betul 14 mm, Indore 13 mm and Bhopal recorded 5 mm of rains.

The reason for these showers can be associated with the cyclonic circulation over Northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas. In addition to this, the low-pressure area also lies over Northwest Jharkhand and adjoining areas.
In the wake of these two weather systems, Skymet Weather expects that moderate to heavy with isolated very heavy rains to continue over Madhya Pradesh for 24 hours more over parts of West Madhya Pradesh but would reduce over West Madhya Pradesh.
Thereafter, we expect a reduction in the rain activities over the entire state. However, scattered light rains would continue for the next four to five days. Hence, relief is in sight for the state now.
