For the past few days, the dusty weather in the plains of North India has been creating weather chaos among the people. It is due to the constant dry and warm weather conditions that a layer of dust and sand has developed in the skies of Delhi and NCR along with parts of Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh and Delhi NCR.
This sand and dust are being carried from the hotter and drier regions of Rajasthan and Pakistan. As the weather is dry, the sand is loose in nature and is being capable of getting easily carried away with the strong winds blowing over the region.
The condition is though not uncommon and usually happens during the pre-Monsoon season, however, the intensity, spread, scale and duration of the dusty weather varies.
The dusty weather has resulted in plummeting the visibility levels to poor with the visibility levels dropping to 600 meters in Amritsar at around 11 AM. Alongside, the city that remains in a good weather condition, Chandigarh witnessing the visibility levels at just about a kilometer during the same time.

Additionally, the delay in the onset of Southwest Monsoon over the region has also depressed the people of North India who are already battling the hot and dry conditions.
Although a relief from the grimy weather can be expected as Skymet Weather foresees some rainfall activity over parts of Northwest India in the next 24 hours
In the next 24 hours, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Western Uttar Pradesh can expect the possibility of sporadic pre-monsoon rains. These pre-Monsoon activities are likely to continue for the next 48 hours with varying intensity. The impact of rain will be higher in the lowland areas of Punjab and Uttar Pradesh.
After 48 hours, there is a possibility of good rainfall in some parts of Punjab. However, parts of Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh may experience some reduction in the rainfall. These rains would, in turn, help in pulling the temperatures down which would provide extensive relief from the heat.
As per Skymet Weather, these rains would be due to the trough line extending from Jammu and Kashmir to Assam through the foothills of the Himalayas. This trough is likely to shift towards the south, due to which the pre-monsoon activities would increase over the plains of North India.
Meanwhile, there have been heavy, dust-bearing southwesterly winds over Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and Punjab for the last few days. Due to this, a thick sheet of dust has stacked over these states, which made the weather extremely uncomfortable during day and night.
However, the rains over these areas in the next 24 hours are sure to bring in the much-needed relief from the grimy weather.
