Relief from Delhi heatwave likely as rains may visit

Delhi heatwave has become a sad affair for the residents of the national capital. Each day, the mercury keeps witnessing a rising trend. While the maximum temperature settled at a whopping 45 degrees at the Palam Observatory, it increased to a whopping 47 degrees yesterday.

Thus, the national capital is reeling under intense heatwave conditions as the maximum is not just above the 45-degree mark but it also happens to be at least six degrees above the normal levels. However, conditions are likely to change soon.

Now, again a fresh Western Disturbance is approaching which will induce a cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and Punjab. A trough from this system will also extend up to Jharkhand.

Dry and hot westerlies will be replaced by humid winds from the southeast. Humidity levels will increase and during the night hours of June 6, we expect isolated weather activity in the form of a dust storm or thunderstorm for Delhi and the NCR region.

By June 7, rain and thundershowers will commence over the national capital. Thus, due to the then weather conditions, temperatures will witness a significant drop. Due to this, intense heatwave conditions which have been wreaking havoc over Delhi and NCR will take a backseat and Delhiites will be able to heave a sigh of relief.

These rainfall activities will persist over the region for at least three days, which means Delhi and NCR will witness some rainy weather between June 7 and 9. Thereafter, temperatures will once again increase.

However, by the second week of June, the humidity will start increasing and continuous flow of easterly winds will also commence. Thus, heatwave will remain on the backseat over Delhi and the present condition may be the last spell of a severe heatwave.
