Relentless Monsoon rains along the West Coast

rain in West CoastThe cumulative rainfall deficiency for the country has been decreasing at a rapid pace and now stands at 6%. A major contribution to the pan India rainfall has been coming from the West Coast for the last many days. This region, comprising of Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala generally receives heavy Monsoon rains.

Vigorous Monsoon conditions are prevailing along the Konkan region. Here, Bhira received bountiful rains of 261 mm in last 24 hours.

Rain in West Coast

 

The off shore trough is active along the West Coast, right from South Gujarat to Kerala. This trough is likely to bring on and off rains along the West Coast.

As of now, Konkan & Goa region has received excess Monsoon rains to the tune of 29%. Coastal Karnataka has also received 7% more rainfall than normal but Kerala is rain deficient by 16%.
