July 24, 2018 1:09 PM |

Mumbai rains to get intense again, heavy showers ahead

As stated by the weathermen at Skymet Weather, the rainfall activity over Maharashtra reduced further. Almost all the meteorological divisions of the state started witnessing a declining trend.

On the last day as well, a significant reduction in the rainfall was observed over the Konkan region which was receiving good spells for the last many days. The rainfall activity also declined over Vidarbha and North Madhya Maharashtra region. Marathwada, on the contrary, remained mainly dry.

The rains that were getting registered in double digits for the last many days over most parts of the state finally reduced to getting recorded in single digits, barring a few locations.

In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Monday, Mahabaleshwar recorded 39 mm of rains, Buldhana 12 mm, Jalgaon 10 mm, Akola 8 mm, Mumbai’s Colaba Observatory recorded 6 mm of rains, Santa Cruz 4 mm, Kolhapur 5 mm, Gondia 5 mm, Amravati 3 mm, Nashik 2 mm, and Satara observed 2 mm of rains.

The reason for the significant decline in the rainfall activity can be associated with the absence of any significant weather system over the region. As per Skymet Weather, the cyclonic circulation that was prevailing over Gujarat has also moved away which resulted in this reduction.

In addition to this, the well-marked low-pressure area that was affecting parts of Vidarbha has also moved northward. All these factors are responsible for the reduction in rain activity over the state.

As of now, we expect the rains to reduce further over the entire state. However, the Konkan region would keep on witnessing light spells only. Vidarbha may get one or two moderate spells. On the other hand, the weather of Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada would be almost dry.

This weather scenario is likely to continue for the next few days over the state. Moreover, this reduction in the rains would also hamper the rainfall status of the state which is likely to reduce as well.

At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:

Farmers are suggested to complete intercultural operations like weeding, hoeing, field cleaning etc.  In Vidarbha, farmers have advised to carry out intercultural operations and apply fertilizers to Cotton, Soybean, Paddy etc.

Due to cloudy weather, pest incidence is likely to increase over Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha in Cotton & Soybean crops, therefore farmers are advised to take proper measures.
