While Gujarat is already reeling under flooding rains, torrential showers continue to wreak havoc in the neighboring state of Rajasthan as well. These heavy showers have thrown life out of gear in Rajasthan, thereby badly affecting the rail and road traffic.

Districts such as Barmer, Jalore, Pali, and Sirohi are the worst flood affected regions. In fact, close to 2500 people have rescued from the flooded regions to safer places while two have been reportedly killed by swollen rivers in these districts.

The weather situation across the state has worsened so much that the Indian Air Force (IAF) is also forced to step in to carry the rescue operations. NDRF and SDRF teams are also involved in rescue operations in the flood-affected areas. Moreover, a red alert has also been issued for parts of southeast and southwest Rajasthan in the already affected flood-hit regions.

Rivers are rain-fed, schools across most districts are shut due to heavy spells and the major state connecting highways are also badly affected due to torrential rains.

Within a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, Jalore recorded 43 mm of rains, Barmer 42 mm, Pali 29 mm, Jodhpur 26 mm, Phalodi 24 mm, Ajmer 13 mm, and Jaipur recorded 3 mm of rains.

The reason for such extremely heavy flooding rains over Rajasthan can be associated with the low-pressure area which is over South Rajasthan and adjoining areas. Moreover, the Monsoon trough is also passing from Bikaner to the northeast Bay of Bengal. In the wake of both these weather systems, rains occurred over Rajasthan.

As of now, Skymet Weather reiterates that the districts of South and southeast Rajasthan such as Barmer, Jalore, Pali, Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Chittorgarh may continue to witness moderate with isolated heavy spells for the next 24 hours. Central regions of the state such as Alwar, Ajmer, Sikar and including the capital city Jaipur may also record a few good rains over as well.

Thereafter, the rain intensity is likely to reduce. However, by July 27, as the Monsoon trough will shift northwards, Rajasthan can brace for some more heavy spells again.
