Pune is the only city in Maharashtra which has been receiving rain since October 19, barring three occasions wherein the weather remained mainly dry. The city has already broken the monthly average rainfall record for November by observing 85 mm of rain as against 30.1 mm in just first four days.

During the last 48 hours, heavy rains have lashed the city, of which in a span of 21 hours, it has recorded 31 mm of rain from 8:30 am on Monday.

According to Skymet Weather, back to back Cyclones are influencing the weather of Pune for the last many days now. First it was Kyarr and now Cyclone Maha, which is responsible for giving good amounts of rainfall.

This trend is likely to continue as there has been a forecast of more on and off rains over the city and adjoining area during the next two to three days. As the Cyclone Maha crosses the Gujarat Coast, light to moderate rain with short intense spells would lash many areas of Maharashtra including Pune between November 5 and 7.

Thereafter, as the effect would start fading away, rains would also taper over the Madhya Maharashtra region.

This has been an exceptional year for Pune in terms of rainfall activities. The city which hardly sees any significant rainfall at this point of time, has been recording rains on a continuous basis. And the reason can be solely attributed to the significant development of weather systems in the Arabian Sea.
