Safdarjung observatory is the repository of official records for the national capital. The extreme heat conditions last till the onset of monsoon in the last week of June. The abstinence of 'Loo', a phenomenon of hot winds on sunny days has given a miss so far.

During last year, till May 6, Delhi recorded the temperature of greater or equal to 40 degrees on 10 occasions. The highest maximum of 43.7 degrees was recorded on 30th April 2019. Since 2009, on 05 occasions, the temperature exceeded 45 degrees in May and the highest in the last 11 years was 45.7 degrees recorded on 24th May 2013.

This year the maximum temperature of 40 degrees has been recorded only once so far, 40.1 degrees on 15th Apr 2020. Three weeks of pre-monsoon heat has escaped thereafter without scoring the benchmark of 40 degrees.

The capital city is unlikely to see such temperatures at least in the next week. The scale is going to hover around 36-38 degrees till 15th May. The city and neighborhood are likely to have dust storms or thunderstorms accompanied with strong winds and showers during the latter half of the day. With a breather of two days on 07th & 08th May, the second spell is likely between 09th and 12th May. This intermittent pre-monsoon activity will be responsible for keeping the temperature suppressed over the next few days.
