Silicon city is grappling with searing heat during this month. The city measured high of 37.6°C on Saturday, 06thApril 2024. This was the record temperature since last 8 years. This also happens to be 3rd highest in the last 16 years or so. The mercury breached 37°C mark for the fourth consecutive day, yesterday. The tech city has recorded mean weekly temperature of 36.8°C, between 01st to 07th April, against its normal of 34°C. Departure of nearly 3°C is huge and reflects scorching summer for Bengalurians.
Bangalore had earlier recorded the highest of 39.2°C in April 2016. The city generally averts the heat wave alert. Courtesy, sitting on a plateau, with modest elevation of about 3,000’, the city escapes the threat of extreme temperatures and heat wave. Otherwise, most parts of the state are under heat wave advisory. The temperature may marginally drop today and tomorrow. But, it is likely to hang around in mid 30’s.
Bangalore has not received any rains since first week of January. Actually, most parts of South Peninsula are rain deficit since 01st March 2024. South Interior Karnataka has remained dry with a seasonal shortfall of 98% since 01stMarch. Both divisions, Bangalore Urban and Bangalore City are rain deficit by 100% as of today. Persistent clear and dry weather conditions led to accumulated heat and sweltering conditions. Hope is coming up for respite, shortly.
Peninsular India Trough during the pre monsoon triggers the thunderstorm activity over most sub divisions. Trough, trough has mostly remained displaced and inactive, as well, so far. Presently, the north-south trough is running from interior Tamil Nadu to Southwest Madhya Pradesh, across Karnataka and Maharashtra. There is an active system over the central parts resulting wet spell over a large area. Trough will connect with that system shortly and commence pre monsoon activity over Peninsular India. As an off shoot, Bengaluru will break the jinx of dry spell. Rain and thundershowers are expected for the city of Bengaluru and suburbs, between 12th and 14thApril 2024. This will provide the much needed respite for the region in general and silicon city in particular.
