Record Downpour In Lucknow : Month's Quota Dropped In One Day

Capital city of Uttar Pradesh was drowned yesterday with extremely heavy rains. The downpour was predicted earlier and warned accordingly. Amausi observatory at Lucknow airport recorded 160mm of rainfall in 24hr, between 8.30AM yesterday and 8.30AM today morning. Very intense rains were experienced yesterday evening and lasted through the night. City continues to be lashed with non stop rains and are expected to carry on today with short breaks.

Capital city has a monthly normal of 162.1mm rainfall in September. Nearly, monthly quota has been hammered in just 24hr.  Earlier, the city experienced similar conditions last year around same time. On 2 successive days, it recorded over 100mm rainfall : 107mm & 128mm on 16thSep 2021 and 17thSep 2021 respectively. September 2021 also holds the highest rainfall record of last 10 years, measuring 325.8mm.  Capital city has clocked 253mm of rainfall, so far in this month. With more heavy rains predicted in the next 24hr and later in the month, it may get surpassed.

The low pressure area, which earlier recurved from Madhya Pradesh, now lies over central and western parts of Uttar Pradesh. Under its influence, more widespread rains, with few heavy spells in between, are likely over the city for another 24hr. The weather system will gradually weaken and shift eastward, slowly. It is expected to break up along the foothills of the state after 48hr and finally get merged with the monsoon trough. Another monsoon circulation is likely to form over Bay of Bengal shortly. Under its influence, another spell of rain and thundershower is expected over the capital city, albeit after a breather of one week.
