January-like weather conditions have returned in Amritsar as the city shivers at 3.4°C. Unseasonal and somewhat unexpected episodes of rain, sweeping large parts of North India could be attributed to this phenomenon. Moreover, hailstorm in the plains of North India left behind a cooling effect and made matters worse.
Amritsar recorded 5.2°C as the minimum temperature on March 9, which was the lowest temperature in last 10 years. Earlier the city had recorded 5.6°C as the minimum on March 9, 2012. Interestingly, the all-time lowest temperature is 2°C, which was also recorded on March 9, 1979.
