Since last many days, rain gods have been hiding their face away from the 'city of Nawabs’, Lucknow. So much so, that the city has been witnessing hot and dry weather conditions.

Now, pre-Monsoon showers have begun to make appearances over the state of Uttar Pradesh. Few districts of Uttar Pradesh, particularly the foothills have recorded moderate to heavy rainfall during the last 24 hours.

Since the span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Lucknow recorded highest rainfall of 111 mm, almost reaching to its monthly average rainfall of 129.5 mm. This was followed by Aligarh 43.8 mm, Bahraich 28 mm, Fursatganj 15 mm, Bapatpur 14 mm, Varanasi 3 mm, Agra 1.6 mm and Meerut 0.8 mm.

As per Skymet Weather, the reason for these rain and thundershowers over Uttar Pradesh can be attributed to a Western Disturbance and a trough that is persisting over the lower levels along the foothills of Himalayas.

With this, very heavy rainfall was recorded in the state capital, Lucknow. While even adjacent areas like Fursatganj, Bahraich, Varanasi, Aligarh, Agra, and Meerut also recorded moderate to heavy rainfall and thundershower activities during the last 24 hours.

Temperatures will register drop by 2 to 3°C. Thus, that much needed relief from the hot weather is foreseen. However, the normal date of onset of Southwest Monsoon over Lucknow is between June 22-24, and we may expect Monsoon 2017 to arrive in Lucknow by the second last week of June.
