Record breaking rain in Amritsar this March

Rain in AmritsarThe weather pattern is changing extensively across the country, possibly due to ecological reasons. Unseasonal and unexpected episodes of rain, sweeping large parts of North India, could all be attributed to climate change.

Consecutive Western Disturbances have brought good amounts of widespread rainfall in the plains of North India. Amritsar seems to have set new records this March and more rain can be expected when two Western Disturbances descend around March 13-14 and March 21. The city will experience good weather conditions for next 3 days. Minimums which are 4-5 degrees below normal, will start rising after 24 hours. Day temperatures can also expect a rise now.

Meanwhile, here's a look at the weather records set by Amritsar this March:

- Amritsar recorded 5.2°C as the minimum on March 9, which is the lowest temperature in last 10 years. Earlier the city had recorded 5.6°C as the minimum on March 9, 2012. Interestingly, the all-time lowest temperature is 2°C, which was also recorded on March 9, 1979.

- The city has already had 6 rainy days this month against the normal average of 3.8 days.

- On March 2, Amritsar recorded 77 mm of rain, which is the all-time highest 24 hour rainfall. The city broke its earlier record of 60.7 mm of rain, received on March 18, 1984.

- Amritsar has surpassed its monthly average rainfall in just the first 9 days. Till now the city has received 81.3 mm of rain, against the monthly average of 29 mm.

- 81.3 mm of rain is also the highest rainfall recorded by the city in last 10 years.
