Unseasonable, widespread and heavy rain along with cold winds in Delhi and NCR region over the past weekend has forced Delhitesto dig their woolen clothes once again. In a span of last 24 hours, national capital received record-breaking rainfall of 56.8 mm against the monthly average of 13.5 mm in March.
Heavy rains resulted in waterlogged streets, leading to massive traffic jams across Delhi on Monday morning.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, more rain is expected on Monday towards late evening, though with reduced intensity. The day is also likely to be overcast. The rain activity will continue till Tuesday morning, ceasing thereafter.
The active Western Disturbance moving across Jammu and Kashmir along with an induced cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan and Haryana region has given widespread rain over the city.
In wake of the rain that lasted for over 36 hours, maximum temperatures have taken a significant dip while minimums have increased marginally. Sunday recorded day temperature at 19°C, which was eight degrees below normal, while minimum was at 15.2°C that was three degrees above normal.
However, this does not indicate that winter is back as chill factor will vanish very soon as this system moves away. The system is likely to persist for another 24 hours, clearing thereafter. As a result, maximum and minimum temperatures will crawl back to normal.
