Torrential three-digit rains continued to batter Honavar in Coastal Karnataka for the third consecutive day. However, the last 24 hours have seen some vigorous Monsoon activity with city recording 202 mm of rain.

With this, Honavar has broken the record of 24 hours’ highest rainfall in last 10 years that stands at 179.4 mm. Not only this, the city has also surpassed its monthly average rainfall of 1032.6 mm with a total of 1318 mm of rain in June so far. Following are the rainfall figures recorded in last three days.

According to Skymet Weather, Monsoon has been vigorous over Coastal Karnataka including Honavar. This has been on account of the active off-shore trough running along the West Coast from Coastal Gujarat up to Kerala.

Further, these heavy to very heavy Monsoon showers are likely to continue over Honavar during next 24 to 48 hours as well. Some extremely heavy spells are also a possibility.

Coastal Karnataka, especially Honavar, is one of the most favoured pocket for the Monsoon rains and is also one of the major contributors.

After the onset of Monsoon, Honavar invariably witnesses rains of varying intensity on almost every single day. So far in June, there have been only five days which have not witnessed any rains.
