Most parts of the country are seeing hot day conditions or heatwave like situation while the state of Gujarat has been reeling under intense heatwave conditions for the past couple of days. Coastal parts of Gujarat have been seeing an extreme rise in the maximum temperatures which have been adding to the discomfort levels resulting in intense heatwave over the region.
Maximum temperatures across the entire state are mostly settling above the 40-degree Celsius mark barring a few stations. In fact, Porbandar, which is a coastal station, recorded its maximum at a whopping 42.5 degrees Celsius which is 10 notches above normal and also the second highest maximum for March in a decade.

Similarly, another coastal city, Veraval witnessed its maximum at 40.8 degrees Celsius, which is the second highest in the month of March in a decade. The highest maximum was recorded a day before at 41 degrees Celsius.
Other cities of Gujarat including Surat 41.8°C, Bhuj 41.2°C, Rajkot 40.8°C, Amreli 40.6°C, and Ahmedabad 39.9°C also recorded above normal maximum temperatures.
Contrary to the usual phenomenon when the interior areas remain warmer than coastal stations, currently, the coastal pockets have been witnessing record breaking maximums and continue to be hotter than the other parts of Gujarat.
The reason for such blazing conditions in the state of Gujarat can be attributed to the constant flow of northwesterly winds from hotter areas of Pakistan where temperatures are already settling around 43 degrees Celsius.
The situation is expected to remain the same and weather will remain extremely hot over these areas with no relief in sight for the residents of Gujarat.
The Gulf of Kutch which lies between Pakistan and Gujarat tends to extract some heat, but the water body is not wide enough to save Gujarat from the scorching heatwave. Normally, water bodies absorb heat and only cause humidity but due to the not so significant width of the Gulf of Kutch, hot winds manage to penetrate the state of Gujarat.
