In the month of February and March, almost entire Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan and Goa remained dry. However, on and off rain and thundershowers were witnessed over Vidarbha and Marathwada. The months of March and April are one of the leanest periods for Konkan and Goa. Madhya Maharashtra also witnesses very less rains during this period.

Whenever any weather system develops over Arabian Sea then only rain increases over Konkan and Goa. During this time of the year, development of any well marked trough or weather system remains very bleak but now a well-marked low-pressure area has developed over Comorin area which will gradually move northwestwards and recurve northwards in the Arabian Sea.
Thus, rain activity is expected to commence over Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra from March 14. On and off rainfall activity will continue till March 16 over Konkan and Goa and Madhya Maharashtra. Rain intensity will be more over southern districts on March 14including Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Sangli, Satara and Kolhapur.
By March 15 and 16, many other districts will receive light to moderate rains including Raigad, and Ahmednagar. Mumbai may also receive one or two spells of rains on March 15and 16. By March 17, rains will reduce significantly over these two regions, but isolated pockets may receive light rains.
Let us look at the impact of this weather on agriculture of Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan and Goa:
Farmers are advised to complete the harvesting of wheat, Rabi Jowar and Safflower. They should also undertake harvesting matured grapes, pomegranate, Chiku due to forecast of rainfall. Rainfall may damage the inflorescence of Mango, therefore they must be cautious. Farmers must also avoid irrigation to summer crops in next 3-4 days and plan thereafter accordingly. They should protect the harvested produce by storing under shade.
