Rajkot receives three digit rains, surpasses monthly meanThe month of August has only brought good news for the state of Gujarat. Southwest Monsoon has remained active over Gujarat for the past 48 hours giving heavy to very heavy rains over the region.

The last 24 hours have in particular been quite a good one for Rajkot and heavy rains have been recorded over the city. So much so that the city has received three digit rains this time. During the last 21 hours, Rajkot has recorded a whopping 112 mm of rainfall.

These rains can be attributed to the low pressure area in the Kutch region, which has formed under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over South Rajasthan and its adjoining areas. The axis of the Monsoon trough also passes through Gujarat across this low pressure area.

Other parts of Gujarat have also witnessed widespread rains with several parts recording heavy rains. During the next 24 to 48 hours, these rains are likely to continue over Rajkot as well as adjoining areas as the weather systems are likely to persist.

Until yesterday, Rajkot had received 73.2 mm of rain in the month of August. However, with this fresh rainy spell, the rainfall figures have gone up to 185.2 mm. Thus, the city has surpasses its monthly mean which is 165.3 mm in less than a week. Last year, Rajkot had recorded just 9 mm in the entire month of August.
