During the month of December, minimum temperatures over Rajasthan, especially in the desert areas, take a dip and settle in single digits, making it quite cold during this time.
The reason behind the rise in minimums is the change in wind pattern. According to Skymet, the temperature pattern in the state is governed by winds blowing from North India and adjoining North Pakistan.
At present, Rajasthan is witnessing southerlies winds, which are warm in nature, instead of the cold northerlies or north-westerly winds.
Moreover, a feeble cyclonic circulation is prevailing over southern parts of Sind and adjoining North Arabian Sea, which is restricting the free flow of the north-westerly winds over the region.
According to the latest forecast by Skymet, minimum temperatures will continue to settle above normal for next two to three days, thereafter taking a dip.
