Cold wave conditions have tightly gripped entire state of Rajasthan. Mercury has dipped to 4degree or below at many places and couple of them plummeting to sub zero. Severity of freeze is more over East Rajasthan than the western half. Most places have recorded season's lowest temperature today morning, ranging 4deg to 7deg below the normal. Severe cold wave is sweeping few parts of the state and the rest under siege of cold wave.

Passage of western disturbance across the mountains during fag end of December 2022, lashed the states with fairly wide spread snow. Icy winds barreling down the slopes of mountains have penetrated the hinterland of the state. Earlier, West Rajasthan was pleasant and cosy and only eastern parts were reeling under cold. The fresh spell has covered the entire region and deep pockets of border areas have slumped to low single digit, first time in this season.

Churu and Sikar have frozen with sub zero temperature of  -1.5degree each, about 7deg below the normal. Bhilwara also clocked 6 degree lower than average at 1.4deg, the lowest of the season, so far. Churu, Sikar, Alwar, Pilani and Bhilwara are few places recording minimum of 2degree or less. Border areas of Bikaner, Barmer, Jaisalmer dipped to 2.4deg, 6.9deg and 7.0deg respectively.

Fresh western disturbance is likely to arrive on 06th night / 07th morning. Slight change in the wind pattern is anticipated. Partly cloudy sky is also likely over north and western parts of the state between 06th and 09th January.  Under the influence of these 2 factor, cold conditions are likely to ease out during this period.
