Rajasthan to witness first spell of winter rain

January 19, 2017 1:45 PM |

Rain in Rajasthan

Mercury has plunged significantly over most parts of North India in past many days.

With this, we can further say that cold wave conditions have tightened its grip over the northern plains. Cold wave conditions are declared when the normal minimum temperatures for the plains are 10°C.

This persisting chilly weather could be attributed to the icy cold winds blowing across the plains of North India. These winds are blowing directly from snow clad Himalayas in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

At present, freezing temperatures are hovering over North Rajasthan. Other parts of the state are also witnessing below normal minimums.

According to Skymet Weather, similar weather conditions are likely to continue for another two days.

Meanwhile, a trough is expected to develop over West Rajasthan during next 24 hours, which would give isolated light rain and thundershowers over the region. The cloud cover is expected to increase.

By January 24, a fresh and active Western Disturbance will approach Jammu and Kashmir. This system is expected to induce a cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan.

In wake of this, rise in minimum temperatures by 3 to 4 degrees can be expected, however maximums may see a drop due to blanket of cloud.  Also light to moderate showers are on the cards at many places over Rajasthan during the similar time period.

This could be considered as the first good spell of winter rain over entire Rajasthan. Though West Rajasthan has witnessed isolated rain but most parts remained dry.
