This year, temperatures in western and southern parts of Rajasthan started rising during the last week of April and by end of the month, heatwave conditions had set in over these areas including Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Nagaur and other parts.

By May 2, temperatures reached the peak of the season. Thereafter, fairly widespread pre-Monsoon showers commenced over most parts of India including Rajasthan. At that point of time, heatwave conditions abated from Rajasthan as well.

Now, once again temperatures are following a rising trend. During last 24 hours, several stations saw temperatures shoot up and settle in the range of 44 to 47 degree Celsius.

Here’s a look at the maximum temperatures recorded on Sunday:

Though actual heatwave conditions have not been met, we can say that heatwave like conditions are prevailing over many parts of Rajasthan. Minimums are also quite high and even touching thirties at few places. For instance, the minimum temperature is 5 degrees above normal at 30.5 degree Celsius in Bikaner.

As of now, southwesterly moist winds are expected to reach southern and western parts of Rajasthan. This will lead to drop in temperatures by a couple of degrees during next 48 hours. Nevertheless, this will be the hottest region of the country.

Northern parts of Rajasthan may receive dust storm and light thundershowers but western and southern parts will remain dry. Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and Barmer will not witness any weather activity over the next few days.
