Updated on March 29: Temperatures to drop in Sikar, Alwar, Heatwave like conditions to prevail in Barmer, Phalodi

The first half of March went pleasantly for the state of Rajasthan that got to witness some light rain and thundershowers along with dust storm. However, these weather activities were mainly confined to parts of East Rajasthan while parts of West Rajasthan wore the brunt of an absolute dry weather. Which is why the temperatures rose over parts of Rajasthan, particularly over West Rajasthan.

The reason for this rise in mercury levels can be related to the flow of northwesterly winds, blowing from adjoining Pakistan. These northwesterly winds are not letting the temperatures to drop over most parts of the state.

However, the northern parts of Rajasthan, adjacent to Haryana may witness a marginal drop in the day temperatures due to the flow of easterly winds.

As per Skymet Weather, a trough is extending from Uttar Pradesh to the eastern parts of the country, hence, this trough would be responsible for affecting the temperatures of North Rajasthan by dropping the temperatures.

Regions like Sikar, Sri Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, Alwar may experience this drop in the next 24-48 hours. On the other hand, the stations of West and South Rajasthan would continue to reel under heatwave like conditions as the temperatures would remain 40 degrees plus.

The month of March is a dry period for the states of Rajasthan and Gujarat. However, Gujarat reels under the heatwave like conditions by the fag end of the month.

However, these weather activities were mainly confined to parts of East Rajasthan while parts of West Rajasthan wore the brunt of an absolute dry weather.

In general, also, pre-Monsoon activities in terms of dust storms, thunderstorms commence during the fag end of the month. Though this time, the latter half of March has been dry. Due to constant dry weather, the temperatures across most parts of the state are on a rise.

In fact, Jaisalmer,  Barmer, Phalodi which is the hottest pocket of the state have even surpassed the 40-degree mark. The districts like Bundi witnessed the maximum temperatures at a whopping 42 ºC and Churu saw the daytime high at 41.2ºC on Tuesday.

As of now, the wind pattern prevailing over the desert state is northwesterly that are blowing from adjoining Pakistan, particularly from Sindh region. There, the weather is already hot and the maximums are already peaking above 42ºC.

The winds blowing from the hotter region is resulting in the temperatures to mount well above the normal levels in Rajasthan. As of now also any significant change in the rising mercury levels is not foreseen and the temperatures are expected to continue to remain above normal. Heatwave like conditions may grip parts of West Rajasthan and few other pockets of the state in coming days.
