Rajasthan rains, a rare treat for residents

June had begun on a hot note for Rajasthan. Weather conditions remained hot and dry and temperatures continued to be sky high. The previous month of May was also extremely hot and sultry for the desert state.

However, Southwest Monsoon has made its entry into southeast parts of Rajasthan including Kota. So much so that the city has recorded 30 mm of rain during the last 24 hours. Also, Pre-Monsoon showers have been observed over the leftover parts of the state.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Jodhpur recorded a whopping 73 mm of rain followed by 30 mm rainfall recorded in Bikaner. Other areas to have received rains include Jaisalmer 24 mm, Churu 7 mm, Ajmer 5 mm and Jaipur 4 mm.

These rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation over the Arabian Sea which has been increasing the moisture incursion over the region. Also, hot weather conditions combined with high humidity resulted in some Pre-Monsoon showers. These rains are a precursor to Monsoon.

Now, during the next 24 to 48 hours, on and off rains will continue over the desert state. In fact, Southwest Monsoon will cover more parts of the state in the coming days.
