Rajasthan gears up for rains, heat wave conditions to abate

June 13, 2019 4:20 PM | Skymet Weather Team

During the last 24 hours, many parts of Rajasthan observed dust storm and thundershower activities. Isolated pockets even received very heavy rains for e.g. Mount Abu witnessed 66 mm of rain in the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Wednesday. While, places in Northwest and West Rajasthan like Churu, Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner, Phalodi and Jaisalmer remained dry.

These pre-Monsoon activities helped in bringing down the night temperatures by two to three degree Celsius in most parts of Rajasthan. The day temperatures are also settling a notch lower than what they had been a few days back.

There are two factors affecting the weather of Rajasthan at present: a Trough running from Northwest Rajasthan up to East India and humid winds from Southwest direction of the Arabian Sea. Both these systems are acting in tandem and feeding moisture to the state.

This influx of moisture has resulted in thundercloud development in southern parts of Rajasthan. Therefore, we expect thundershower and dust storm activity over places like Jalore, Sirohi, Udaipur, Pali, Rajasamand, Bhilwara, Bundi, Chittorgarh and Kota, later today. Isolated rains are also expected in Ajmer, Tonk and Sawai Madhopur.

We expect these pre-Monsoon activities to decline by tomorrow and temperatures to increase again. However, we expect heat wave conditions to abate many parts of Rajasthan today.

After a short break till June 14, pre-Monsoon activities will once again visit the state June 15 onward. Thus, severe heat wave conditions will not make a comeback in the state of Rajasthan anytime soon.
