Freezing cold winds blowing from snow clad mountains of Western Himalayas are sweeping across Northwest India. Due to this, temperatures of Rajasthan and many other Northern and Central States have nosedived. Rajasthan witnessed record breaking minimums with Churu recording -2.6 degrees, Siker -2.5 degrees, Bhilwara 0.0 degrees, Pilani 0.1 degrees, Chittorgarh and Ganganagar recorded 1.8 degree each. Many other districts of Rajasthan recorded minimums 5 degree or less such as Udaipur, Ajmer, Jaipur, Kota and Bikaner. In fact, temperatures of Churu and Siker have been the lowest in the month of December during the decade.
Cold winds from northwest will continue for another 2-3 days. We expect temperatures of Western districts of Rajasthan to drop further or may remain in similar range. Temperatures of eastern districts of Rajasthan may remain stable for another 24 hours and thereafter there may be gradual increase.
Fresh Western disturbance is expected to approach Western Himalayas by December 22nd and winds will change direction. Cold northerly and North westerly winds will be replaced by relatively warmer and humid south westerly and South easterly winds. There may be patchy clouds over parts of north and Northeast Rajasthan which may further help in increasing night temperatures.
Despite increase in temperatures cold wave conditions will persist over many parts of the state.
