Rajasthan has been enjoying good Monsoon rains since the beginning of this month. All thanks to several Monsoon systems developing in and around the state, as we stepped into August. In fact, Rajasthan has remained one of the best performing regions since the beginning of the four-month-long Monsoon season.
The normal rains are quite less for the desert state. Thus, Rajasthan has recorded excess rains as on August 8, 2016. Till now, for the entire Monsoon season East Rajasthan has received excess rainfall of 48% while West Rajasthan has received 2% more rains than normal.
During last 24 hours, Southwest Monsoon has brought vigorous rains over East Rajasthan. Jaisalmer received 11 mm of rainfall in a span of 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Monday. Chittorgarh has also received 259 mm of rainfall while Bikaner received 101 mm. Jodhpur received 42 mm of rainfall, Barmer 38 mm, Jaipur 23 mm and Ajmer 9 mm. Jawai Bandh in Pali district received 50 mm of rainfall while Mount Abu witnessed 53 mm
On Sunday as well, several places received heavy showers with Chittorgarh recording a whopping 229 mm of rainfall.
This spell of rainfall could be attributed to the low pressure area lying over East Rajasthan and adjoining West Madhya Pradesh along with the associated upper air cyclonic circulation.
Moreover, the axis of the Monsoon trough is now passing through Bikaner in Rajasthan, the centre of the low pressure area over Madhya Pradesh, Satna, Daltonganj, Bankura, Digha and thence southeastwards to east-central Bay of Bengal.
The weather systems in and around Rajasthan will continue to bring rain over the state. Good Monsoon rains will continue over West Rajasthan for next 24 to 48 hours. Isolated places could receive heavy showers as well.
